Do
- Only click Attending if you will attend. You make a commitment; it’s not a ‘Like’ button as in Facebook.
- If you can’t make it for an event and you are still listed as Attending, change your status to Not Attending before the event starts. Otherwise you will be listed as a No Show.
- Bring enough snacks and drinks. Every event there are hikers who run out of snacks and drinks. Bring at least enough for yourself…!
- Arrive timely. We insist in starting at the scheduled time. It’s only fair towards all others who arrived on time.
- Be ready for the briefing at the scheduled time. Stop chatting for a few minutes. Listen carefully to specific event instructions.
Don't
- Do not submit the Membership Form before every event. It is a one-off thing. You only have to submit it once.
- Do not click Not Attending to start with. We are only interested in those who join us.
- Do not bring guests. Ask your guests to register. For legal and safety reasons, we need to know the details of the persons who are joining our events.
- Do not ask the event host to wait for you if you are running late. If necessary, ask any other participant to wait for you.
- Do not clog the comment section with irrelevant postings.
- Do not use the comment section for carpooling arrangements.
- Do not mention your private information (mobile, e-mail) in the comment section. Meetup is publicly accessible. Not everyone has honourable intentions.
- Do not be intrusive by adding your name to a car without contacting the driver first if you would like to carpool.
- Do not message the event host or mention in the comment section the reason why you can’t make it this time. Just changing your status to Not Attending will do just fine.
- The event hosts will wait until the last person has finished the hike. Do not take them for granted by spending extra time in the jungle (shower, picnic, checking out other trails).
- Do not overestimate your own fitness level. Do not underestimate the difficulty level of the hike. The event hosts are there to assist you, not to act as 'babysitters'.
- Do not join for the event if you haven’t read the entire write-up. Having read the write-up is the least we can expect from a hiker who joins us for an event.
- Do not persuade any of your friends or relatives to join for an event without informing them properly what to expect. They might assume that hiking is like walking in the park.
- Do not join for a hike with a rating which is beyond your capabilities. Start with an easy one and build up gradually.
- Do not leave your hiking essentials at home. Bring a proper backpack and all the gear you might require during the hike.
- Do not put extra workload on the event hosts by contacting them with questions of which the answers can be found in these guidelines or in the event page. Read before you ask.
