In almost all cases, try to follow the following procedure:

  1. Save the national emergency numbers in your phone under Emergency. Those numbers are 999 (not 911…!) and 112. The latter will work well for mobiles.
  2. Save your emergency contact in your phone under Emergency followed by the name of your contact. Example: Emergency (Tony Hernandez) 012-1234567.
  3. Save the mobile number of the event host in your phone. The number can be found in the carpooling e-mail.
  4. In case of an emergency, always try to contact the emergency number on your yellow card first…! Always contact the event host before calling in the authorities. Almost all ‘emergencies’ can be handled by our own team.
  5. Don't panic; stay calm.
  6. If it is a medical emergency, never leave the injured person alone. If CPR is needed, keep on performing CPR and ask someone else to contact the medical services.
  7. If you are off-track, trek back to the junction where you can see markers again. NEVER assume you will reach your destination by continuing to follow the wrong track.
  8. If you are off-track and unable to find your way back, ration food and drinks and look for shelter. Keep yourself warm. In most cases staying put facilitates search efforts.
  9. Make sure you have the 'what3words' app installed in your phone so you will be able to relay your exact location to the emergency services.
