It is important to know that:
- This event covers two hikes, one on Saturday and one on Sunday but we arrange accommodation for Friday night.
- Dorm accommodation for Friday and Saturday night will be in 6 or 8-bed dorms with locker, curtain, individual light and plug point. Luggage storage is provided. Additional amenities include a washing machine, hairdryer, dining area, kitchen and kitchenware.
- Own tent accommodation will be at a guarded campsite which is accessible by car. The campsite has toilets and bathrooms with water-heater. Plug point nearby the tent will be available.
- If you come by car, pay attention to the given coordinates. Drivers please check the coordinates and the route you intend to follow, at least the day before the event to avoid any hiccups. It is not the first time that an app sends a driver to a different location...!
- The tentative coordinates of the meet-up place are 4.470392, 101.378120 - Dataran Tanah Rata. You will be updated in a timely manner.
- This is a paid event as we arrange for accommodation and it is compulsory to engage guides and apply for Forestry permits.
- Carpooling is highly recommended because you need transport from the accommodation place to the trailheads and back. Car parking fee is not included in the participation fee.
Bring enough drinks and snacks (carbohydrates). For the hikes, isotonic drinks are not a luxury and you will need at least 1.5 litres.
Wear shoes with a good profile to prevent sliding. No slippers, no crocs, no shoes or sandals without a proper strap.
If it has rained, it might be muddy here and there.
On Saturday we will drive to Kampung Raja - which is more than a 30 minutes drive from Tanah Rata. We will arrange for a 4WD to bring us to the trailhead of Gunung 6040.
Exact meet-up timing will be communicated in a timely manner, but most likely it will be 07:00 am.
We hike in and out the same way and the total distance is between 13 and 14 kilometres - IBP 85.
The elevation gain to the summit is around 500 metres and only the last 2.5 kilometres the trail ramps up.
On Sunday we take it much easier and less higher. First we will drive to Ringlet - a 20 minutes drive from Tanah Rata. There we will hike what is called the Trans Gandik trail.
Meet-up timing will be communicated in a timely manner, but most likely it will be 09:00 am.
This is an easy hike which will cover three 'mountains': Gunung Bunting, Gunung Tanggung and Gunung Gandik.
We hike in and out the same way and the total distance is around 6 kilometres - IBP 42.
The total elevation gain is slightly more than 200 metres.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, Maps.me, OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly.
If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Malaysia, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file.
See further instructions sub 'How to prepare myself for navigation...?'
Do not come to the venue if you have not installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of Malaysia at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home.IMPORTANT: Though we have guides for this hike, you will receive a gpx file in advance and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers.
IMPORTANT: We will perform a check of the mandatory items before the event starts. For your own safety, if you do not have the mandatory items in your possession, we will not allow you to hike.
The meet-up time listed on the event page is the time that the event starts. Be sure to reach the meet-up place at least 15 minutes prior to the meet-up time.
Please be responsible and don't litter – be sure not to leave any rubbish anywhere.
